RIVER CANAL RESCUE

A True Story

In the year 2000 a boat enthusiast and qualified diesel mechanic woke up in the middle of the night thanks to a bizarre dream about rescuing a boat that had broken down.

The following night he dreamt that he ran a business called River Canal Rescue and that morning the business idea was born. Little did he know that this dream would start a journey that developed one of the most influential, liked, and respected small businesses in the UK. And the story is still being written…

Trevor had the dream and the dream became reality…he trained most of our original engineers and although he is now retired continues to offer insight and support in the field. He is also one of the most experienced Rescue and Salvage chiefs and is brought in when we need specialist assistance.

Stephanie is a professional Electro Mechanical Power engineer and has worked in the business for over 20yrs. Liaising with customers, engineers and office staff she provides the technical support ensuring our customers services remain high on our agenda. Also known as the Oracle because she aways finds a solution to a problem.

Pete has been involved in the company since inception and between him and Trevor they have attended thousands of callouts. He now heads up Key Diesels engine fitting services and is chief Rescue and Salvage Co-ordinator.

Jay started as an apprentice at 16 and is now a director of the business, with years of engineering under his belt and a love of vintage engines and gearbox rebuilds he offers insight and support to our field engineers. He is responsible for development of new services and operations.

Charlotte started her journey undertaking weekend work and progressed to apprenticeship and eventually moved up to being office manager, managing a team of 15 and liaising with engineers she runs a tight ship (excuse the pun).

Recently joined RCR taking on the position of Team Leader having previously managed a team of project engineers. She has easily taken to the logistical nightmare of RCR callouts and helps manage and motivate the office team - she is taking to the boating world like a duck to water!

Sue looks after the money ( the most important job) she is also the one that everyone Is a little scared off…especially if your missing a receipt. Sue makes sure all contractors are happy and paid and that we have a smooth supply of parts.

Keeping us online and ensuring adequate security and capacity is Pauls key role in the business. Managing severs, access and control. He also supports Sue in Accounts and deals with contractor and parts invoices liaising with Tushka to ensure everything is as ordered and assists with debt collection.

Tushka’ s passion is parts … well most of the time, she has an ability to locate and identify replacements for obsolete parts and is like a dog with a bone. She is also the office rescue coordinator and will be on hand to offer advise and guidance when accidents happen.

Emma manages the Canal Contracting work load and is supported by Kim and Andy from an engineering point of view. She manages the day to day jobs, sending estimates and keeping customers informed as well as sorting allocations and invoicing.

He is based in the midland and specialises in electrical work but has a passion for rescues and is eagerly developing his experience as a rescue coordinator. He was also named ‘Engineer of the year’ this year.

Paul is from a plant back ground and took to RCR like a duck to water, his skills easily transferable and his knowledge on lister engines invaluable. Paul looks after the north west area and can attend callouts from Lancaster to Leeds and down to Stafford…not all in one day though.

Steve fondly known as grandad is looking forward to retirement, he cut his teeth on petrol engines and has been with RCR longer than he would care to remember. Steve supports the ongoing team (jobs that need a return visit or attendance for Parts Replacment) and can strip a gearbox and fit an injection pump with his eyes closed…well nearly.
